As it says on the tin, I am a truck model builder. I generally build in 1/24 scale which makes an average articulated lorry model around 22" long (550mm). They are generally 
made from plastic kits, but 'multimedia' is often an option nowadays and white metal, resin, brass and chrome etch parts are also used. Take a look at building a model for an insight into truck model building.
I build truck models from rigids to artics based on existing Italeri and Revell model kits
Not only do we start with a model kit these days, but after market suppliers provide many of those little extras that really put a grandstand finish on the model.
